Anti-racist practice for front line practitioners & Managers (please note there are separate dates for managers and practitioners)
The sessions are facilitated by Marcia Rice and will take place online via Teams.
Course Aims
- To develop participants understanding of the concept of racial discrimination and the wider historical, organizational, institutional, cultural and personal perspectives of racial discrimination impacting on professionals and Black children, young people and their families
- To offer opportunity to be self-reflective about your own biases when working with staff, children and families from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- To increase awareness of the dynamics of working with and issues experienced by Black and Global majority children and families including contextual safeguarding, adultification, marginalisation and service inequalities.
- To enhance understanding of different aspects of Black person’s identity and how these may intersect to influence risk and vulnerability?
- Impact of different spheres of personal, structural, institutional racism on personal experiences and service delivery
- Understand the role of cultural,bias and competence for improving service outcomes
- To explore how racism effects personal, professional experiences of assessment ,engagement and service delivery to Black children and families
- To examine internal structures that are in place to support practitioners to recognize, discuss and challenge internal and institutional racism?
- Identify ways to be a race ally, support colleagues in your teams and encourage racial and cultural inclusion the workplace
- Identifying strategies an action plans to improve racial discrimination and improving anti racist practice .
