This training course is hosted by Zari from 'LGBTQ+ Youth In Care'

Zari (he/they) is an LGBTQ+ youth support worker, social work graduate, speaker and trainer.
Zari strives to empower and uplift young LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as train professionals and carers who support LGBTQ+ young people in care.
 

Course duration

This will be a 4-hour training session, with a short-break included.

Course Content:

Key Training Highlights:

  1. LGBTQ+ Language and Terminology: Explore the diverse and evolving language within the LGBTQ+ community, fostering a deeper understanding of identity and expression.
  2. Cisnormativity and Heteronormativity: Address and unpack the impact of societal norms.
  3. Microaggressions and Unconscious Bias: Develop awareness of microaggressions specific to the LGBTQ+ community and their effects on young people. Gain tools to identify and mitigate unconscious biases, promoting fair and equitable treatment for everyone.
  4. Intersectionality: Understand and explore the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals who navigate multiple marginalised identities
  5. Gender Norms and Stereotypes: Challenge preconceived notions by examining and deconstructing gender norms and stereotypes that can perpetuate bias and discrimination.
  6. Safeguarding: Discuss best practices for ensuring the safety and well-being of LGBTQ+ young people in care.
  7. Reflective Scenario Activities: Engage in practical, real-world scenarios to enhance understanding and application of LGBTQ+ inclusive practices.
  8. Reflections and Q&A: Participate in open discussions, ask questions in a safe and brave space, and share insights to promote a collaborative and interactive learning experience.
