Educate Not Mutilate aims to promote, preserve, and protect the physical and mental health of women and girls in particular, but not exclusively, by tackling the gender-based violence and health inequality that is rooted in female genital mutilation- a form of gender-based violence, through this educational workshop which advances education and raises awareness of the issues among school students, teachers, health professionals and the wider public.
Educate Not Mutilate is a constituted group with charitable status, that works together through public education:
· To promote the human rights of women and girls to live free from violence, with education, where women have full autonomy over their bodies and are not subject to violence and mutilation.
· To focus on how gender-based violence affects women’s health and what can be done to prevent it.
· To create awareness of female genital mutilation, breast ironing and other forms of gender-based violence against women and their impact on women’s health through education, training, awareness raising and
partnerships.
In 2012, the UN General Assembly designated February 6th as the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, with the aim to amplify and direct the efforts on the elimination of this practice. https://www.un.org/en/observances/female-genital-mutilation-day
