HSCP Prevent training

The WRAP training is designed by HM Government for any staff, front line staff, managers and specialised employees who are based in any of the listed “specified authorities”:

 Local authorities
 Schools and Registered Childcare Providers (excluding higher and further education)
 Further education
 Higher education
 The Health Sector
 Prisons and probation (including under 18 secure environments)
 The Police

People subject to the Prevent duty will be expected to demonstrate activity in the following areas:

• assessing the risk of children being drawn into terrorism.
• demonstrate that they are protecting children and young people from being drawn into terrorism by having robust safeguarding policies.
• ensure that their safeguarding arrangements take into account the policies and procedures of the Local Safeguarding Children Board.
• make sure that staff have training that gives them the knowledge and confidence to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism, and to challenge extremist ideas which can be used to legitimise terrorism
• expected to ensure children are safe from terrorist and extremist material when accessing the internet

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Understand the Prevent Duty and the statutory responsibilities to keep individuals safe
• Understand how Prevent fits into the institution’s wider safeguarding responsibilities
• Understand why some people are able to influence and manipulate others to commit crimes
• Identify behaviours that would give us cause for concern, how and when to make a referral and the intervention provided, the channel process
