Cultural awareness to the Turkish/ Kurdish community

The session will be facilitated by Taylan Sahbaz, the Centre Coordinator at Day-Mer, which is a Turkish and Kurdish Community Centre

Aims of the session:

-Learn about the history of Hackney’s Kurdish, Turkish, and Turkish Cypriot Communities

-Understand the unique contribution these communities make to life in Hackney

-Understand some of the challenges these communities face and how the Council can better support our residents in these communities.

-Gauge gaps in data/intelligence about these communities and contribute to debate about data collection and service models from a community perspective

-Promote community rights, develop collaboration to ensure sustainable services for communities
