Training Description – Private Fostering Awareness
This workshop provides participants with an understanding of private fostering arrangements and their significance in safeguarding children and young people. It explores the legal definition of private fostering, common situations in which private fostering occurs, and the roles and responsibilities of professionals in identifying and responding to such arrangements. The training highlights the importance of early recognition to ensure children living in private fostering arrangements are safe, supported, and receiving appropriate services. Participants will also gain an overview of local authority duties and the processes that follow once a private fostering arrangement has been identified.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- Understand the definition of private fostering and how it differs from other care arrangements.
- Recognise common indicators and circumstances that may suggest a child is being privately fostered.
- Understand why it is important for professionals to identify and report private fostering arrangements promptly.
- Gain knowledge of the legal framework and safeguarding responsibilities relating to private fostering.
- Understand the duties and responsibilities of the local authority once a private fostering arrangement is identified, including assessment, monitoring, and support requirements.
- Develop confidence in identifying potential private fostering situations and taking appropriate action to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
