Partners Day with Haringey: Introduction to Your Local Police Public Protection Teams

The North Area BCU Public Protection (PP) Command will host a virtual Partners Day for Haringey practitioners and partner agencies via Microsoft Teams. This introductory session will provide an overview of the specialist police teams responsible for safeguarding children and adults, investigating abuse and exploitation, and working collaboratively with statutory and voluntary sector partners to protect vulnerable people across our communities.

The event is aimed at professionals from children's services, adult social care, education, health, housing, probation, voluntary sector organisations, and police colleagues who would benefit from a greater understanding of Public Protection investigations and safeguarding practices in the MPS. Through presentations from specialist New Scotland Yard officers, attendees will gain insight into the roles, responsibilities, referral pathways, investigative processes, and partnership working arrangements that support effective safeguarding outcomes.

This session represents an opportunity to strengthen multi-agency relationships, improve understanding of police safeguarding functions, and enhance collaborative working across Haringey.

Learning Outcomes - By the end of this 3 ½ hour session, attendees will be able to:

• Understand the structure and responsibilities of the North Area BCU Public Protection Command.
• Identify the roles and functions of specialist safeguarding and investigation teams, including: 
  • 1. Child Abuse Investigation Team (CAIT)
    2. Child Exploitation Team (CET)
    3. Domestic Abuse Investigation Team (DAIT)
    4. Local Missing Persons Hub (LMH)
• Gain an overview of how different units within your local Policing Public Protection investigations are managed and progressed.
• Understand how police officers work alongside partner agencies to safeguard children and vulnerable adults.
• Recognise opportunities for effective information sharing and multi-agency collaboration.
• Develop greater confidence in engaging with Police Public Protection teams and understand appropriate referral and escalation pathways.
• Build stronger professional relationships that support improved safeguarding outcomes across Haringey.
