HSCP Contextual Safeguarding (practical Session)
Course Objectives:
- Summarise the evidence-base on adolescent development and extra-familial harm that underpins a Contextual Safeguarding approach .
- Guide participants to explore this evidence base further through an interactive case study activity in which they build a contextual understanding of extra-familial harm .
- Introduce the component parts of the Contextual Safeguarding Framework and support practitioners to identify how they apply to the interactive case study
- Explain the two-levels of a Contextual Safeguarding approach, and identify resources on the Contextual Safeguarding network that support the implementation of each level.
The learning outcomes:
By attending the session participants will:
- Understand the contextual dynamics of extra-familial harm and how these interact with adolescent development
- Recognise the core features of a Contextual Safeguarding approach
- Begin to identify key resource they can use to develop Contextual Safeguarding approaches through their individual practice and in their teams
Target Audience: Currently available for audiences in children’s social care, youth justice, voluntary sector, education, sports organisations and multi-agency safeguarding partnerships
