HCA - Understanding men who sexually abuse children
Working with men who sexually abuse children
Introduction course aimed at experienced practitioners to become practice champions in this area of work.
You will need to register for the 2 half day sessions, one can not be attended without the other (30 June and 1st July 22)
What the course will cover:
- The models used to understand the origins and expression of sexually abusive behaviour
- The process of sexually abusive behaviour in a variety of context
- The impact of child sexual abuse
- What we mean by ‘risk’ and ‘risk management’
- Defensible decision making
With a specialist background in child and public protection, the course facilitator will explore:
•The scale of the problem, including incidence and prevalence. Who are those sexually abusing children?
•Models for understanding and assessing this behaviour
•How to use knowledge of those who sexually abuse children in direct work with them and their families,
including the non offending partner
•Those who offend online
•How child sexual abuse affects the individual victim, and the wider family, including siblings
• Applying situational crime prevention to CSA
Throughout, you will be given the opportunity to explore and discuss the issues related to your work situation using your
own case examples and practice.
