Delivered by Carol Platteuw -Child care consultant, play therapist and trainer.
Containing some theoretical grounding, this is a highly experiential course mostly workshop style enabling you to learn and practice techniques using a wide range of materials including sand, clay, puppets, drawing, paint etc.

Day 1 - Structuring sessions

Learning outcomes
By the end of this 4-day training course, you will be able to:
- Effectively structure sessions with children to inform assessments.
- Understand how children are affected emotionally and developmentally by experiences of attachment, separation and loss, abuse, neglect and trauma and have some ideas of how to help the child manage these powerful feelings.
- Understand better how to use a range of techniques that help children communicate their wishes and feelings verbally and non-verbally through their behaviour and play, individually and within their families and pick out the themes and patterns they are exhibiting for your reports.
- Be able to listen and respond to children most effectively to ascertain their wishes and feelings and know how to add the child/young person’s views to your assessment reports and evidence these.
- Be able to undertake parent/child work to enhance relationships.
- Have a tool kit of techniques to use in direct work with children.
