HCA - Finding out the views of children, when there may be barriers to communication, and supporting them to be involved in choices about their lives

This workshop will involve discussion of the following themes:

• Why we should try and elicit the voice of the child, even when that is not easy?
• How can observation be used as a tool?
• How we can determine the level at which a young person is able to participate in decision making about their life course?
• What kind of resources and ideas can we share to help young people to communicate better with us about what their hopes, their wishes and their worries?

Who should attend?

Social workers and other staff working in Haringey Children’s Services, who are interested in sharing their experiences and thinking about how to engage with children and gather their views, even when this presents some challenges.
