Coercive Control and DASH RIC training
Training Overview
This session provides practitioners with a practical introduction to recognising and responding to domestic abuse. Participants will develop an understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and coercive control, learn how to identify risk using the DASH Risk Assessment Checklist, and understand the role of Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARACs) in safeguarding adults and children affected by domestic abuse. The session will include opportunities for discussion, reflection and questions to support confidence in identifying, assessing and responding to concerns.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the nature, dynamics and impact of domestic abuse, including coercive and controlling behaviour.
- Recognise indicators of domestic abuse and identify factors that may increase risk to victims and their families.
- Understand how to use the DASH Risk Assessment Checklist to assess and evidence risk.
- Identify the threshold and process for referring cases to MARAC.
- Explain the purpose, function and benefits of MARAC in managing high-risk domestic abuse cases.
- Understand their role and responsibilities in safeguarding and information sharing within a multi-agency response.
Target Audience: Multi-agency practitioners working with children, young people, adults and families.
